Gambling and America- How much are we really playing?

Have you ever wondered how much money we are really spending at the casino? Sure, you may play once in a while and, when you do visit, you can’t help but stare in awe at the high rollers, but how much is really going into the gambling industry?

The results may surprise you.

According to the American Gambling Association, the gross gambling revenue was a grand total of 92.27 billion dollars in 2007. Card rooms accounted for only 1.18 billion dollars while charitable games and bingo accounted for 2.22 billion dollars.

Where did the big money come from- lotteries took home 24.78 billion dollars and Indian casinos took in 26.02 billion dollars in 2007. But the big winners are the commercial casinos with 34.41 billion dollars gross revenue in 2007. Commercial casinos include all sorts of games from poker, to roulette and other table games as well as slot machines which are estimated at 70% of this gross revenue.
